Mindfulness, gratitude, mediation, and positivity are some popular ways to cultivate a healthy mind in our world today. These tools are helpful in sustaining our mental health, but we believe its important to first dig into the roots of why we have certain mindsets. Understanding what beliefs we hold and how they have come about helps us to unlock the lasting change that we are all searching for.

Our beliefs are shaped by our history and experiences. Our thoughts come from those established beliefs. When thoughts become consistent they start to become patterns of thinking. These patterns become default perspectives based on our experiences, however, they may not reflect the truth of who we are.

If you have memories of being left out of a group while growing up, you may have developed a belief that you will not be welcomed into a new group. This fear could lead you to avoid stepping out of your comfort zone and attending events where you don't know anyone. However, if you have memories of always including new people into your friend group, you have likely developed a belief that you will always be welcomed into a new group. This belief gives you confidence to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people because you have an expectation that you will be welcomed with open arms. Negative experiences begin to lay the ground work for fear-based thinking patterns to take hold, whereas, positive experiences build confidence to step out in the protection of love.

The function of a fear based thinking pattern is to avoid disappointment. We find comfort in knowing what to expect rather than allowing space to be let down.

Fear based thinking patterns anticipate the outcome of a current situation to reflect a past experience in order to alleviate the pain of future disappointment.

Hoping for a better outcome leaves more room for unanticipated pain. If we have experienced rejection in the past, fear based thinking justifies our decision to stay in our comfort zone to avoid the risk of future rejection. The problem is, when we don't take the risk we also never get to experience the potential of our desires being fulfilled.

Love based thinking operates out of hope and faith. It enables you to partner with God to step into the unknown space between where you are and your desired outcome. This way of thinking requires you to know and believe the Word of God and believe that He is who He says He is. God is trustworthy, faithful, almighty and all knowing.

A life of faith is saturated with mystery, but established by the security of heaven.

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will" (Romans 12:2 NIV).

A renewed mind is rooted in the belief that you are loved. God is for you not against you. God is your perfect Father, your provider, your healer, your comforter. He is your source of peace, joy, faith, self-control, and power. All that you need is found in him. He prompts us to step out in faith because nothing is impossible with Him.

We receive the ability to have a renewed mind when we accept Jesus as Lord. The renewed mind lives with the awareness that we are now sons and daughters of the Almighty God. This brings freedom because we are no longer held captive to the effects of experiences. The patterns of this world make experience the foundation of our belief. The renewed mind makes our identity as sons and daughters the foundation of our belief enabling us to always respond out of love. The renewed mind lives in complete alignment with the thoughts, feelings, motivations, and actions of Christ.

The process of changing our thinking from being rooted in experience to being rooted in our identity in Christ requires embracing discomfort. When we expose our thoughts to God’s light we receive healing, redemption, and freedom that is unshakable. Fear based thinking patterns can only live in the dark. When we decide we want freedom over this area of our lives God lovingly covers us in His shadow of protection while we allow ourselves to be vulnerable before him. He renews our mind to become resilient and healthy so that there are no cracks in the foundation for him to build in us a beautiful life of peace, joy, love, hope, and faith.

The RMS MIND program equips you with the tools to replace a broken identity with the truth of God's identity, root out fear-based thinking patterns, and establish love. The first step in adopting this new identity is surrender.

Surrender begins by praying that God's grace would align your thoughts, actions, and attention with His Spirit. If you pray the prayer below, you are choosing to come into agreement with God's identity and stepping into the process of renewal.

Jesus, my desire is to adopt the mind of Christ and see myself from your perspective. I choose to lay down my old nature of self serving desires, thoughts, and actions in order for the effect of your sacrificial death on the cross to establish in me the new covenant that you made with God the Father, and Holy Spirit on my behalf. Thank you Jesus for this new covenant. Thank you that I am now adopted into your royal family and get to receive with all God’s children the full rights as members of this family. Jesus help me to take every thought captive that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God and insist that it bow in obedience to you. Thank you that through this act of surrender and discipline I get to experience being co-glorified with you. Please protect my mind from any attack of the enemy as I put on the helmet of salvation and take hold of the sword of the Spirit, your Word, in order to stand firm, fully prepared, and victorious in my faith. Amen. [2 Corinthians 10:3-5][Romans 8:17]
